200 bookbinders in one room

Well, we managed to get nearly everyone making notebooks on Saturday. The interesting crowd are always a warm and forgiving bunch, but we were still pretty apprehensive about 200 people bookbinding in unison. So what did we learn/feel about the experiment?

  • Sharing skills with people is pretty rewarding
  • People love making stuff (seems obvious)
  • We actually quite enjoyed the public speaking bit (I never expect to)
  • The stuff we do in our life that makes us feel warm and happy seems to do the same for others
  • We love doing, making, creating
  • We were glad we did all the prep, despite the long hours, because it made the experiment achievable and simple

Lots of ideas for the future of this little project, we will keep you posted. And if you took part, thank you so much for letting us give you a little insight into what we spend a lot of our earth hours doing at Stanley James Press.

Here’s the completed film including stop motion and Harinezumi from the day.

Here’s a link to the photo’s we took and link to photo’s by others.

My highlight of the day had to be Alby Reid and his 1000 mousetraps, trying to demonstrate nuclear fission.

We couldn’t have done this without the help of People Who Do, White Lines, Russell, James, Matt, Alis, Simon and John – Thank you for the suggestions, help and for being our test subjects.
